Students in all grade levels participating in the traditional learning model will return to full week, 5 day, in-person learning beginning Monday, Oct. 26th. All safety and cleaning protocols outlined in the GCS Framework for Safe Reopening of Schools document will continue to be followed. This document can be found on the district website at www.gcschools.net under the COVID-19 Re-Entry Information link. In order to provide time for additional deep cleaning and sanitizing, all schools will dismiss early on Wednesdays beginning the week of Oct. 26th and continuing throughout the first semester of school. High school and middle school students will dismiss at 12:30 pm on Wednesdays and elementary schools will dismiss at 1:00 pm on Wednesdays. 21st Century Grant After School Programs will be available to provide enrichment and tutoring to students. Transportation will be provided for students who participate in the 21st Century Grant Program. Berea College Virtual GHS Visit Berea will be offering a chance to meet with an employee virtually in order to learn more about Berea College. School Picture Day!! School Picture day for A students will be Monday, Oct. 5th. B students will be Wednesday, Oct. 7th. EDGE students can come anytime after school between 3-5 on either day. Athletes can come by a little before practice. Effective Monday, Sept 28, GCS will begin an A/B Hybrid Schedule Effective Monday, September 28th, all students who have chosen in-person learning will begin operating on an A/B Hybrid Schedule. Students will be divided into an “A” group and a “B” group. Individual schools will send a notification on Monday, Sept 14th alerting parents/guardians of the group to which students are assigned. Students assigned to the “A” group will attend school in-person on Mondays and Tuesdays. Students assigned to the “B” group will attend school in-person on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Students will continue to complete assignments and watch teacher posted videos online on days in which they are not scheduled to attend in-person. Students and staff will follow the safety protocols outlined within our GCS Framework for Safe Reopening of Schools. Given the current conditions within our community, we believe this plan provides the safest environment for students and staff while providing a quality educational experience. As a reminder, throughout the year plans may be altered for the safety of students and staff. Martin McDonald has been selected as principal of Mr. McDonald has served most recently as principal of Oak Ridge High School in Oak Ridge, Tennessee since 2015. He is slated to begin as principal of effective October 19, 2020. A committee of administrators, staff members, students and a GHS parent representative selected Mr. McDonald following the screening of applications and interviews of selected candidates. Class of 2020 Commencement Ceremony, Aug. 1, 9 A.M. EST, Burley Stadium The GHS Graduating Class of 2020 will be celebrating its commencement ceremony on Saturday, August 1 at 9:00 AM. The ceremony will take place on the field of Burley Stadium with social distancing measures and mask requirements in place for the graduates and their guests.
